Ministry to Our Congregation

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

CUMC has formal committees and less formal groups that maintain regular programs and services for our congregation…to help wherever the need arises.  All interested persons are welcome to participate wherever they feel called!

Care Committee – Many of the services and activities available for church members and the community are clustered under our Care Committee.  From Care Shepherds to Supports and Linkages to needed services,  the Care Committee will assist in directing persons in need to the right places. Missions Team – The Missions Team seeks to make a difference in other’s lives through action – identifying and addressing needs in the community and throughout the world!  Missions has organized responses to natural and man-made disasters, sponsored refugees, marshaled resources for overseas churches and sponsored trips to Cuba, Africa and within the United States.  The Missions Team is always looking for persons interested in living spreading God’s word throughout the world through actions!  Contact Beth Penrod to learn how to participate in this important ministry, or call the church office .
Fellowship Committee – Creating opportunities for the congregation to enjoy each other’s company through fun and fellowship is important to build a caring and vibrant church family.  This Team is always looking for new ways to get the congregation together and in the past has organized movie nights, Halloween “Trunk or Treat,” church dinners and a host of other events.  Sue Bonspille coordinates this committee and would love to hear some new ideas or get some help for upcoming activities!
Discipleship Team – The CUMC Discipleship Team meets to create and provide opportunities that will nurture God’s people on their journey of spiritual growth through selecting and supporting various Bible Studies throughout the year.  Special series are developed around Christmas and Easter.  The Team meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM – contact Leah Robinson through the church office for upcoming studies and to participate in the Team’s work.
Spunky Singles – A group of single adults – some young, some young at heart – who get together in Christian love for outings such as plays/theater, restaurant dinners, ice skating, lilac festival, bowling and much more.  The Spunky Singles get together each Monday of the month to plan and scheme about the mischief they will get into next.  Dianne Travers can give you more information or call the church office.
Community Outreach Ministry – This Team organizes projects and activities to assist families and children in our local area.  Check out all the additional activities this Team does…click HERE!  The Community Outreach Team meets the 1st Thursday of the month at 6 PM – contact Diane Illaqua directly or through the church office for more information or how to get involved.
United Methodist Women (UMW) – The UMW keeps traditions alive…from arranging for wedding receptions or funerals to ensuring that the kitchen is ready for anything.  Organized in UMW Circles that have separate and unique functions, the UMW is open to all women of the church and sponsors retreats and activities of interest to all.  Contact Joan Kesel or the church office for more information.
Men’s Ministry – Responding to the need for getting things done around the church and community, the CUMC Men’s Ministry does God’s work whenever called.  Building wheelchair ramps, conducting large maintenance projects and hosting spiritual gatherings, the Men’s Ministry continues to offer a concrete way to serve for the men of the church.  For more information or to know how to serve, just contact the church office.
Bereavement Committee – This small group shares needs, problems and how to cope with grief or the loss of loved ones.  Meeting once a month at local restaurants for an optional dinner, the group moves back to the church for their session.  Contact Mary Alice Scheel or call the church office for more information.
Cancer Support – Dealing with the stress and confusion of a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming for the person involved or their family.  This group helps through sharing strategies and offering supports by meeting on a regular basis.  Contact the church office for more information.  Dick Burtis is the contact or call the church office for more information.
